In December, Angie Godwin completed the "Transforming your Business with Lean" course through the Wichita Manufacturers Association. This eight-part series provides an incredible opportunity to learn more about the fundamentals of Lean education. All proceeds from the course will be utilized to support scholarships for high school students.
Angie is a current employee at The Bradbury Company working as the administrative assistant for engineering. She recently completed an eight-part series on lean principles and earned her white belt in the process. Lean, a vital component of Six Sigma and 5S methodologies, focuses on streamlining management practices to maximize efficiency and effectiveness by eliminating wasteful processes. Through this course, Angie gained valuable insights into the various forms of waste and their impact on a company's revenue and productivity. One important lesson she learned was the importance of creating value throughout the process, distinguishing between value-added activities and wasteful elements that hinder progress. Waste can manifest in different ways, from damaged goods to unnecessarily lengthy procedures, untapped talent, and overproduction. At Bradbury we will look for ways to eliminate waste. As part of her training, Angie had the opportunity to visit GPI (Great Plains Industries of Wichita) and witness the successful implementation of Kanban systems, which utilize visual signals like color-coded totes and progress charts to enhance workflow transparency. Another key takeaway from the course was the phased approach to Lean implementation, acknowledging that change doesn't occur overnight. Effectively adopting Lean requires a cultural shift and dedicated commitment over time, says Angie Godwin. This transformative strategy has the potential to greatly benefit Bradbury, we are a global company with many talented employees eager to make a difference.
Angie will continue to work with the Wichita Manufacturers Association and look to claim her green belt next. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to your job Angie. Bradbury looks forward to the positive impact that Lean will have on our business.
